E-Nightingale is quite a new research project (For the whole project, please clickhere.). Only overviews and abstracts of my research are shown below....E-Nightingale is a research project that aims to analyze the behaviour of nurses. The behaviour will be extracted from the data that will be taken by using the ubiquitous techniques [1]. We hope our analysis will be benefitable to improve their work in a hospital and to prevent unconscious accidents.
- Integrated data mining
Abstract of [2]:
In this paper, we propose an integrated data mining system in which missing information is collected from other monitoring systems to be used for data mining. Recently. it has been recognized that a medical risk management is very important both for hospitals and hospital patients. To prevent nursing accidents and incidents, it is important to analyze previous examples of nursing accidents and incidents. Thus, hospitals usually collect reports on nursing accidents and incidents to analyze feature of accidents and incidents. From the viewpoint of data mining and from the fact that recently some hospitals have introduced electronic medical recording, it is much easier to analyze a lot of reports with the help of computers. In fact, some data mining techniques can be applied for analyzing nursing accidents and incidents reports. However, in most cases, the results are not only typical tendencies or rules but also superficial rules. This happens because since the reports lack much information, it is difficult to find complex results only from the reports. We overcome the problem to integrate a data mining system and monitor systems to supplement missing information.
- Analysis of Nursing errors In this project, we would like to model features of nursing errors. The results from the analyses will be applied to the following nursing risk managemnet.
- Nursing risk management as Chance Discovery
Abstract of [3,4]:
In this paper, we analyze the feature of chance in nursing risk management for better management. Recently, it has been recognized that medical risk management is very important both for hospitals and hospital patients. To reduce nursing accidents, examples of nursing accidents are usually collected for analysis. This allows us to obtain certain tendencies of nursing accidents and causality between environment and nursing accidents. Such knowledge can be useful in nursing risk management, but is not fully adequate. In addition, in a real situation, it is necessary to deal with a hidden relationship between an ignored event or factor and an accident. Thus, in this paper, we analyze the feature of hidden factors in nursing accidents and propose a way to determine chance (= hidden or ignored factors) as abductive hypotheses.[6] and [19] introduced a concept of scenario and [7] analyzed nurses' conversation from the viewpoint of risk management.

- Ontology in nursing We are now researching for constructing ontologies for nursing activities. For that, we are currently collecting nurses' voice during their actual activities. And we transcribe the data to build corpora [8,10]. In addition, we are now analyzing the collected data to extract or model nursing specialized terminologies [11,12,16].
